If a Tree Falls at Lunch Period

This great book is about two friends, Walk and Kirsten. Kirsten hated her life, her parents were fighting all the time, she was losing her best friend, Rory the school bully, she had an eating disorder that she hated.   Same thing with Walk, he has a dead father, doesn't have a lot of friends and he has a theory that his mom is dating someone without him knowing. If that isn't hard enough, Kirsten finds out a huge secret between her and Walk. A secret so big that it might even ruin their friendship! Will Kirsten and Walk ever be friends again? I recommend this book to sixth and seventh graders.

Hatchet

This is one of my favorite books of all time. It is about a thirteen year old named Brian that was flying to his father's house for the summer. On his way to the cabin, the pilot of the plane had a heart attack and died. Now Brian has to safely land the plane so that he doesn't die too. He decided to land the plane on a nearby lake. The landing was a success! Now Brian must live in the wilderness until someone sees or finds him. He also faces challenges while living in the evergreen forest. I recommend this book to students from fourth through seventh grades. If you like the outdoors, then this is the book for you. - Parker L.

The next day he shows it to his cousin, Quinn. They both are amazed by the space rock. Then Brady begins to get powers from the meteorite. He can run fast, jump high and beat Quinn at everything. Middle School is Worse Than Meatloaf

Ginny is just about ready to start 7th grade this year... well, almost ready! She made a big to-do list for what she needs for the beginning and middle of the year.  Her list includes a yellow sweater, a new nose, getting the lead role in The Nutcracker as the Sugar Plum Fairy, horse back riding lessons, becoming friends with Katherine, her ex-friend and a whole bunch more! If you want to learn the rest then you will have to read the book! The big question is, will Ginny end up getting what she wants? I recommend this book to students from fourth through sixth grades. - Julie W.

Night of the Howling Dogs

I am very connected to the characters in the story because I am a Boy Scout just like them. This story is about a Boy Scout troop in Hawaii that is going on a camping trip. On their way to the camp, the main character, Dylan, spots two wild dogs that no one else saw. It was very strange. After a few days of staying there, they meet a group of cowboys that wander around. Two nights later a giant earthquake shakes the ground. Then they were hit by a tsunami. There was little hope that they would survive. The troop would have to find everyone and get off the island. But how? I recommend this book to students from fifth through seventh grades. - Parker L.

Schooled

One day while Capricorn (Cap) was lounging on the porch doing his school work, his grandmother fell out of a tree while picking plums. When she landed, she broke her hip. She had to go to the hospital to be treated.  Because this happened Cap, had to go to the local high school. He meets many people and they all have different personalities. When he and his peers were on the bus, Cap did an amazing thing that saved all of the students. After that day, the whole student body loved him. Later his grandmother is well and is getting out of the hospital. Will Cap be able to stay at the high school, or will he have to leave? I recommend this book to students from fifth through seventh grades. - Parker L.

We have read the book and have seen the movie. In our reading class we compared the book to the movie. Our class thought that the book was much better. If you want to see the movie, definitely read The Lightning Thief first.
